PORTUGUESE CONVERSATION IN YOUR HOME TOWN

Trying to learn Portuguese on your own can be a little lonely. How do you get the feedback you need to improve your accent and choice of words? And who’s there to pat you on the back for a job well done when you finally manage to put together a complete sentence?

To help language learners with this need, in 2010 I
organized weekly conversation groups in San Diego,

organization meetup.com. Actually, in Rio we
practice both Portuguese and English at the
same time. These groups have been meeting
regularly for a little over two years.

HOW I LEARNED PORTUGUESE — And How YOU Can Too!

Long ago I took a year of Portuguese in college. After that I had little contact with the language until 2005, when I decided to pick it up again, this time seriously, with the idea of eventually visiting Brazil and getting to know the people that I would meet there.

Since I didn’t have any outside pressure to study, and no time limits or tests, I was free to take my time and do only things that I really enjoyed. It seemed to work. This article describes my method. Give it a try and you may have the same results. Read more
